ustria isn't on many people's list of good brewing countries, but some parts of it deserve to be.  Vienna (Wien) is a fantastic city in every respect, and has numerous brewpubs to explore whilst Salzburg has an ex- monastic brewpub in a fascinating building and the south of the country has a scattering of brewpubs too - in fact, the country has many micro brewers and brewpubs albeit many are in remote locations.  The star of the show beer-wise, however, is the grandiose Habsburg capital of Vienna and it deserves a place on every beer lover's itinerary.

The report for our original June 2003 trip is here, my page on Vienna's beer scene (kept as up-to-date as possible) is here, and the new report from December 2007 (including Bratislava) is now online here.
